One of the best parts of a vacation in Cape May is that there is always something to do. Some folks love to come and spend a week just on the beach and we understand the joy in that relaxing strategy! From the Cape May Lighthouse to the Aviation Museum, there are many historic Cape May locations to get to know during your stay with us. The Cape May Lighthouse is a great place to start your historic Cape May adventure. Built in 1859, this lighthouse is located at Cape May Point, which is a short drive or bike ride from our inn. Tickets for the Lighthouse can be purchased ahead of time online or at the lighthouse (active military are Free!) There is a beach at the lighthouse, several nature trails, a natural history museum and picnic tables at the state park. It’s a great spot to spend a half or whole day in Cape May.
Just down the street from Antoinette’s Apartments & Suites is the Emlen Physick Estate. This historic home offers tours, hosts festivals throughout the year and is especially great at Christmas time when they have their train set and upside down tree out in their gift shop.
Historic Cold Spring Village is a short drive from our inn and is open in the summers and spring and fall weekends. On the weekends, you can find festivals that range from historic re-enactments to quilt and fiber shows.
The Greater Cape May Historical Society maintains The Colonial House in Cape May. Starting July 5 through September 13, the museum is open on all Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Colonial House is also open to the public at no charge from June 15th to September 15, Wednesdays through Saturdays from 1pm–4pm. Additionally, they are open for Victorian Weekend in October and for the December Candlelight House Tour.
NASW Aviation Museum is a great space to take the whole family. We are always hearing from folks how much the adults and kids love it! It is open daily, rain or shine, from 9-5. Perfect for the history buff!
The World War 2 Tower can be seen on several of the trolley tours, but it is also worth the drive or bike ride out to explore it in person and learn more about Cape May in this period of history. For hours and days open, check the Cape May MAC website where you can also purchase tickets in advance.
The Soldiers Monument is a wonderful spot to stop and appreciate those who have given of themselves to defend the country in World War 1. Recently rededicated, this Press of Atlantic City article offers a lovely perspective on it and its importance in area history.
The Cape May MAC offers over 10 different Trolley Tours that depart from just a couple of blocks from our guest house. From everything from haunted ghost tales to a captivating Underground Railroad and even one oriented toward the kids, you can’t beat these trolley tours as an enjoyable way to learn a lot about Cape May history in a tour about town.

To learn more about African American History in Cape May, you can join one of the walking tours run by the Center for Community Arts. They run on Thursdays only at 11 am from June 13th through August 31st (2019 dates). If you cannot make the guided tour, you can stop by the Center’s offices (at 717 Franklin Street) and get directions for a Self Guided tour that you can run from your phone.
